Well these connectors won't really make contact unless the plastic part applies the right force to the pins to make them touch the ribbon's contacts, so it's likely it either won't work at all, cause random drive disconnects and/or further damage the connector. Old thread but incase anyone else stumbles across this, I found this double sided tape which has a centre foam like layer I cut a really small piece on top of the ribbon cable while it was in place and stuck another piece on top pinning down the smaller piece when I put the laptop shell back on it the pressure of the shell holds the tape down so there's absolutely no movement in there once it's closed hope this helps someone . There are two rows of 4 pins that the ribbon tip goes between in the connector, but I cant get the right amount of pressure or placement of some kind of shim to make it work properly.
