They adjust at the waist with an easy pull when you're shedding weight on the trail. Luckily for me, these pants have two; one on each thigh. I turned the pants inside out and noticed the end of the zipper fabric (the 1/2" or so wide fabric that all zippers come with on either side of the actual zipper, that gets sewn to the garment) was stiff and sticking out a bit and irritating my leg. A cool little feature is that there are two zippers on each pocket; one on the top (like you'd expect), and one on the side that can easily be used to access the pocket while seated. The back pockets don't have any buttons, Velcro, or zippers so don't put your wallet or anything important there.
