Eau Sauvage allows me to briefly step off that ever-revolving carousel and truly enjoy something that can stand alone in confidence. The Extreme and Cologne version do perform better, but the former doesn't have the airy freshness of the original, while the latter goes in a whole different direction. Catched my nose at first smell but then i did't know that was Dior's scent. The first time I reviewed it I was new to fragrances and was basically too intimidated by it. It is citrusy, green, flowery, woody and a bit spicy too. Beautiful, memorable and elegant and for me has the most character of all the classic aromatic citrus scents. Its classic, its bright, fresh, and somehow reminds me of my grandmas closet. (OK 60-70 discounted). Henson's "Bog of Eternal Stench", comical but nightmarish. By this point, the opening's moderate projection has begun to gradually fade toward skin scent level. This eau-de-cologne opening is, as some have said, fairly brief, maybe 60-90 minutes, but it's not supposed to last because it's doing what eau de cologne does, offering a stimulating kiss on the cheek -- to do this for hours would be both artificial and wearing. Picked up a bottle from 1998, crown lid in the old style bottle. It carries a masculine skin vibe.. if that makes sense (like Kouros and Lapidus pour homme like if you could smell testosterone). Maybe if I hit the lottery. Other seasons, this will fade quickly, but it really seems to work best on a hot summer day. I get 6-8 hours with above average projection (I use 4 sprays). What a pity. I have a tendency to like leathers and manly vanillas (winter juice?) She looked like Jane Birkin. This is such a wonderful citrus scent. One of the most classic, masculine citrus scents IMO. Its a bit lighter and less savage than Id expected( was picturing them throwing in a dirty or nasty note. He sought simple comforts then and now. Its quite a shame because Im sure back in the day this was just fine and now butchered. It is a nice scent of lemon with a vetiver/oakmoss/herbaceous mix. Suave and cool and fresh. ok projection and poor longevity however the scent more than makes up for it, in the opening and especially the dry down. Vintage Dior was much better than the new releases with a few exceptions. Eau Sauvage is not guilty of this. I would like this on a man in summer not sure it would work in cold weather. A true Classic Dior old school lemon type fragrance thats liked by many but is more for the over 40 year olds these days. The most reliable male citrus Ive had the pleasure to smell. A slightly talismanic pleasant fragrance with citrus Bergamot and lemon. Wear anywhere anytime and know you have made a great choice. The drydown of vetiver and spice is a bit masculine, but clean, not harsh, with some florals left over from the base, so women might enjoy wearing Eau Sauvage. So many notes and all I can smell is the citrus (which I like of course.) I just want to live in the bottle. It then becomes herbal and it has this wonderful fresh watery feel with floral hints. I'm always a little uneasy about fragrances that have been around for such a long time because they can smell very dated. In short: a lemon cut in half and beautifully filled with great taste and refinement. I like it, but it smells a little too generic. Regardless of the fact some consider it dated, I guess this is something that makes it easier to wear - IMHO, it lost some edges, it became closer to what a common EdC is. Verdict: There are nicer lemon freshy frags out there with better performance and price. What intrigues me so much about Eau Sauvage is that while it smells unambiguously masculine and has always been marketed to men, it seems to contain within its very essence a license to be feminine. What they wore back then because it was popular when they were young in the 60s. Clear and fresh scent of lemon and bitter-fresh rosemary are combined perfectly with masculine, woody nuances of a base. Its an excellent chypre but sadly its performance is lacking - and can be problem to some. It lasts and lasts and harmonizes with the cold air and rain drops, I think who is the making of this fragrance is charming. If you're comfortable wearing a really masculine scent in a world where people want you to apologize for being masculine then you're gonna love this. Such a masterpiece, too bad that couldn't project well, and lasts only 2-3 hours. Eau Sauvage has that vibe. Nice, faint lemon scent with a nice basil note in the opening. It's skin scent if a few minutes. Eau Sauvage is a great citrus-herbal fragrance that most will enjoy. The musk is just nice not too much). A lurking vetiver note rounds out the experience with its green grassy twang. For me it wears better in the fall, not summer because of its basenotes which cam get a bit cloying on hot and humid weather. Somehow, it is no less masculine for this. This reminds me of the English countryside on a perfect summers day. I really can't believe this came out in 1966, this is the first fragrance I've smelled that I truly believe is timeless. Then it quickly turns more green and herbal. Hearty Malbec to wash it down. Vile. Longevity is ok- sillage as well but the projection is abysmal but one thing is for sure this will never be outdated like many classics, Eau Sauvage will remain forever young a timeless elegance. Imagine a pine tree forest in the early-morning dense fog, covered with wet moss and old wood decaying into dark, earthy soil. I love it. Feels very natural and classic. Every time I wear this, it puts me on a great nostalgic trip and makes me feel great. This entire genre smells classic (or old fashioned if you prefer), but Eau Sauvage could easily be a modern creation in this genre. If I ever run out of my bottle I will definitely repurchase it. Not dated at all, this is just timeless and for a clean well put together person. . It became classy and subtle. The one I've got opens with a sherbet lemon smell but then dries down to something special and old school. The musk is very very faint, If you can imagine the aroma of a fresh-out-of-the-shower Rick Moranis, you can experience "Eau Sauvage.". I'm 25 and I'm enjoying this much more than most of the modern fragrances. Reminds me somewhat of Beau de Jour or 1899. Good fresh fruity and citrus smell. A timeless classic, you can't go wrong with, especially if it mingles finely and warm up with your chemistry instead of sitting coldly on top. The class is always the class. Who cares if the lasting power isnt fantastic? But do I need a bottle - you bet - its really a sublime (albeit soft, after a bright opening) citrus. Orphe is a favourite of mine (and not just because it was my parents' first date!) I just wish it lasted a bit longer and had better performance. Sort of lemon trees, green grass and a summer breeze in mind. After an hour, I can't tell any similarity between them, and both seem different scents. An understated classic. The longevity of it as a skin scent on me starting around the 6 hour mark is quite remarkable (ambient temperature ~60F). : This smells of a classic and sophisticated manly fragrance - think Aqua Di Parma Colonia made more aromatic with Chanel Pour Monsieur with a 60s Dior twist. Well - hate to break it to you - THIS IS NOT IT.
