Now Im a little bit of a control freak when it comes to stain, and like to be able to adjust my stain as I go, so I normally turn to stain first, and then top coat when Im absolutely happy with the stain color. I also use an electric Paint Sprayer to spray a very fine mist of water around my spray area to weigh down the dust and settle it. A special primer must be applied to both coatings in order to achieve a durable finish.
